Skill’s For Time Management

multi-tasking! It feels like you are getting a lot done but there have been many studies that show that multi-tasking is a really inefficient way to manage your time.

Writing an email, talking on the phone, researching on the net and eating lunch all at the same time takes a lot longer than tackling each task separately. You’ll go a long way in learning time management skills that will assist you in succeeding in any endeavor if you force yourself to focus on one task at a time.

The downfall’s of improper time management skill’s

  • concentration- allowing interruptions to break your concentration. There have been many times that I need to get something done on the computer, like researching for an essay, but I’ve left my email open so that each time I hear that noise indicating that I have new mail, I’m distracted from the task at hand.

What I now do to quickly get through stuff like that is, close my email client, turn off my phone and only have the browser open to search results that pertain to what I’m researching. Do not have any kind of alerts on that will take your attention away from what you are trying to do. That means no twitter or facebook or skype…you get my drift ;o)

  • Disorganization is another sure way to hamper your ability of learning time management skills. How many hours have you spent already in your lifetime looking for stuff? I’d be afraid to count up the hours I’ve wasted looking for things such as: keys, books, papers, shoes, clothes, etc.

Getting organized can be one of the biggest benefits of managing your time properly. My mother always used to say, “There’s a place for everything and everything in its place.” I used to kinda smile and think she was just a stick in the mud, but now realize how much easier everything is when I don’t have to run around looking for something.

  • procrastination is Another extremely common problem when it comes to learning time management skills. Why do today what you can put off until tomorrow, right? Wrong! The more you procrastinate, the more you tend to fall behind not just in one thing but in every aspect of your life. Overcoming procrastination will help you to keep your life in balance, giving you the time and freedom to do those things that you really want to do.
